Who We Are

Our Vision

To provide all people of Burundi access to water and Jesus.

Our Mission

Provide every community in Burundi with safe, clean water and access to the Gospel by 2030.

Our Strategy

Laser-Focused on Water for Burundi:
Amazi Water is the primary NGO providing water in Burundi. Even though the process we use is very detailed, when we explain it to the public, we make it easy to understand and always explain it the same way.

Our Three Step Process

There is more to the drilling process than meets the eye. One might think it is a matter of digging a hole in the ground and clean water springs up. In reality, every project at Amazi Water follows a detailed 3-step process to support success.

Read below each step to learn more about how we go from picking the site to maintaining it.

Select, Assess, and Survey the Site

Step 1 - Select Assess and Survey the Site

  • Site Selection — Gain approval from the Provisional Water Authorities. Form a water committee made up of community members.
  • Assessment — Evaluate local water source and assess the effects of poor water quality on area health and agriculture: and research population and demographics.
  • Survey — A hydrogeologist surveys the site for a water source that is both viable and easily accessed by community members.

Train and Equip Community Members

Step 2 - Train and Equip Community Members

  • WASH — Community training on Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH).
  • Training — Equip community members on the successful use of water pumps.
  • Share the Gospel — During a training session, our staff shares the good news of Jesus —the Living Water. This step is central to our work.

Step 3 - Drill, Design, Construct, & Maintain

  • Drill — An Amazi Water construction team of engineers and hydrogeologists drill, water test, case, and cement the new water well and pump.
  • Open the Well — The community comes together for a ceremony to celebrate the provision of clean water through their new well.
  • Maintenance and Reporting — Three months after the well opening, local staff members conduct a follow-up visit to ensure the well is in working order. The local team also responds to maintenance requests via a national hotline.

Voice Characteristics

Our voice describes how our brand communicates with the audience and thus influences how people perceive our messaging.

Omni Channel

OUR APPROACH

Everything we say and do has a purpose. We edit stories, images, videos, and other resources to fit the needs of each channel (medium). We use a variety of platforms to share our mission, and all messages and imagery must line up with our brand voice and the storytelling framework.

The Amazi Water storytelling framework is central to explaining stories to partners, donors, and volunteers. We tailor the script according to the audience (e.g., donors, corporate partners, non-believers, etc.). We use it in all channels.

Storytelling Framework

A storytelling framework will be used to communicate the heart of the Amazi Water business model quickly and clearly, featuring the people the organization serves in a dignified way. The underlying principle is to “make the people we serve the hero of the story, not the organization or our services.” As an NGO, we may also have another hero in our storytelling — that hero is a donor or volunteer, and they are addressed similarly.

Dignity

According to Scripture, we are all made in God’s image; all human life carries inherent dignity. Therefore, we represent other humans well in our communication because every individual deserves the dignity of being a divine image bearer. For details, see the Imagery page of the Amazi Water Brand Book.
