Because of a donor’s generosity, a water system has been installed in Kamonyi, Gitega Province which serves more than 1,450 people with access to safe, clean water — for most of them, it was their first time seeing clean water in the neighborhood.

A Miracle at Joselyne’s Doorstep
For Joselyne Niyonzima, a mother of six in Kamonyi, Gitega Province, safe, clean water was once her greatest challenge. Every day, she faced the grueling task of walking miles to fetch murky, unsafe water from a distant stream. Pregnant and often carrying a toddler on her back, Joselyne braved early mornings, knowing the water she collected would bring sickness to her family. Her children frequently fell ill with waterborne diseases like cholera and diarrhea, draining the family’s limited income on medical bills instead of food or education. Life in Kamonyi was defined by scarcity. As a rural farming village, the community relied on agriculture for survival, yet the lack of clean water limited their ability to grow crops or care for livestock. For nearly two decades, Joselyne felt trapped in a cycle of hardship, unable to envision a better future.
That all changed when the Amazi Water system was installed.
For the first time, Joselyne saw clean water flowing through taps just steps from her home. She remembers the moment vividly: “It felt like a miracle. The water was clear, fresh, and right here, at my doorstep.”
The clean water system did more than save Joselyne hours of walking each day. It transformed her family’s health and well-being. With safe water, her children are no longer plagued by illness, and the family’s medical expenses have drastically decreased. Joselyne now tends a thriving vegetable garden near her home, growing tomatoes, cabbages, and onions. This garden provides fresh food and an additional source of income, offering financial stability for the first time in years.
The impact of clean water reaches beyond individual families. In Kamonyi, over 1,400 people now have permanent access to safe water — many for the first time. Reliable water sources improve crop yields and livestock health, boost food security, and strengthen the local economy. The community is healthier, more hopeful, and better equipped to thrive.
To Joselyne, clean water is more than a necessity; it is a lifeline. It has restored her dignity, relieved her burdens, and filled her with optimism for her children’s future. “Water was once my greatest struggle,” she reflects. “Now, it is our greatest blessing.”
Generosity Changes Lives Forever
Because of the generosity of Amazi’s supporters, families like Joselyne’s no longer face a daily fight for survival. Clean water has brought hope to Kamonyi, ensuring that future generations grow up in a community where water is not a luxury but a right.
